There’s no place like home. On Tuesday, for the first time in the history of Major League Baseball, all 15 home teams won their games. According to the Elias Sports Bureau the previous record for home teams on a single day was 12-0, set more than one hundred years ago on May 23, 1914. The 15-0 mark wasn’t possible before MLB expanded to 30 teams in 1998.
I’ll assume another type of history was made in the NFL on Tuesday. Geno Smith, the starting QB for the New York Jets, will now miss at least six weeks, due to a broken jaw. His jaw was broken in the locker room by a sucker punch delivered by a supposedly irate teammate (now ex-teammate!) That’s a historical first far as I have heard.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is now the Jets starting QB to open the season. Fitzpatrick is the active leader among all NFL QB’s in games started without ever starting a playoff game. That number is 89 and it really does illustrate the talent Fitzpatrick brings to the QB position: strictly a veteran backup,
Are the Jets cursed? Jets #1 fan and top NFL handicapper, The Mailman, seems to think so and I tend to agree, having witnessed the infamous Cubs and Indians curses in my lifetime.
