UNLV lost in overtime - at home - to Idaho and Idaho is a pretty bad program. In fact they have historically been so bad they are leaving D-1 after the 2017 season and dropping down to a more affordable D-II. I applaud the administration for wising up and abandoning the 'football arms race' that D-1 has become.
Back to the game: Idaho was on the road for a third straight week and had been slaughtered in the prior two games versus Washington and Washington St. Yes, UNLV is still a far cry from those two 'big time' programs but many line makers -including our own, The Whale Man- had UNLV as a two TD favorite to win the game.
It is one thing to not cover a fat spread but something else when you NOT cover and also get beat! The Rebels also rushed for nearly 400 YARDS which usually mean you have a pretty good shot at winning the game. Someone tell me the last team to rush for that may yards and still lost?
In spite of all the hype surrounding 2nd year head coach, Tony Sanchez, and what the local media claims is a vastly improved team/program, my opinion is the following: until UNLV actually beats a couple of historically better programs we cannot wager on them as even a 3 point favorite due their continuing habit of finding ways to lose
.......... muses about ballgames and life in Las Vegas - particularly the long hours spent in the casino sports book surrounded by sexy cocktail waitresses, degenerate horse players, the Whale Mans entourage ....and the sheer terror of having Under 7 with 5 runs already on the board by the fourth inning".
